PM Modi Returns Home After 2-Day Visit To Bangladesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi Sunday night after a successful 2-day visit to Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj greeted Mr. Modi at airport. In a tweet, Mr Modi thanked Bangladesh and said that the visit would remain forever etched in his memory.

The Prime Minister said the outcome of the visit would lead to a stronger partnership. He said, though Pakistan is constantly creating trouble for India and promoting terrorism, New Delhi has given a supreme example of non-aggression when it released 90 thousand Pakistani prisoners of Liberation war after its surrender to the Indian forces. The Prime Minister was addressing a meeting at Bangabandhu Convention Centre in Dhaka Sunday.

AIR Correspondent reports that both the countries have signed 22 agreements and MoUs on several issues including the exchange of the Instruments of Ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement. Mr Modi also received the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour on behalf of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in recognition of his role in Bangladesh Liberation War. Modi met leaders of different political parties and businessmen of Bangladesh.

India and Bangladesh issued a joint declaration yesterday themed Notun Projonmo-Nayi Disha or New Generation-New Direction- highlighting bilateral cooperation. Both the Prime Ministers reaffirmed their uncompromising position against extremism and terrorism in all forms. Both the countries agreed that Doordarshan and Bangladesh Television, BTV will enter into an agreement to allow BTV to join Prasar Bharati’s DTH platform.

Meanwhile, New Delhi has expressed satisfaction on this visit and termed it as historic. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikash Swaroop expressed satisfaction on the way people and government of Bangladesh have lauded the Prime Minister’s visit.
