Nestle India Moves Bombay High Court On Maggi Ban

Nestle India Thursday moved to the Bombay High Court raising issues of interpretation of the Food Safety Standards Act 2011 and also sought a judicial review of the order of the Food and Drug Administration of Maharashtra on the ban on sale of its instant noodle brand ‘Maggi’.

”As a part of the effort to resolve the Maggi Noodles issue, Nestle India today moved to the Bombay High Court raising issues of interpretation of the Food Safety Standards Act 2011, whilst seeking judicial review of the order dated June 6, 2015 passed by the Food and Drug Administration in Maharashtra and the order dated June 5, 2015 passed by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India,” the company said in a filing to Bombay Stock Exchange.

At the same time company is continuing the withdrawal of the Maggi noodle products.

This action will not interfere with this process and will proceed further as the per the order of the Bombay High Court, the company said.

Earlier, the company had challenged the order of the Uttarakhand government in count on ban sale, storage and production of Maggi Noodles, which as per the state food regulator had excessive amounts of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead in them.

The company courted controversy after reports on higher-than-permissible levels of some substances in its Maggi instant noodles and had withdrawn the brand from across India.

Nestle has been selling Maggi in India for over three decades.
Earlier this month, Nestle’s global CEO assured that Maggi is safe for consumption and the company doesn’t add any MSG into it
