Odisha To Set Up Health University In 2016

The process for the establishment of a health University in Odisha bagan Thursday with a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary G C Pati discussing about the modalities of the proposed university.

The meeting decided to operationalise the University by March 2016 next, a senior Health Department official said.

It was decided to constitute an expert committee under the Chairmanship of the Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) to prepare a blue print for the establishment of management and to assess the funds required for the propsoed university.

The committee was asked to submit its report within a month.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while reviewing the performance of the Health and Family Welfare Department in the first week of the current month, had directed to set up a health university in the state in a bid to streamline the medical education and provide quality health care to the people.

The state has now three government run medical colleges and efforts are on to set up five more medical colleges in the state. If the Health University was set up, all the government as well as the private medical colleges would come under its fold
