SW Monsoon Further Advances To Odisha, Low Pressure To Trigger Rains

The South-West monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Odisha today covering most parts of the districts in the state.

Met sources here said the monsoon has further advanced to Nuapada, some parts of Bolangir, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Balasore and Jajpur, most parts of Nayagarh, Bhadrak, few portions of Baragarh, Sonepur and Boudh, entire districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Surat, Ujjain, Narsingpur, Raipur, Phulabani, Cuttack, Digha, Krishnanagar, Darjeeling and conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Chattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal during next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Met sources said yesterdays low pressure area over West Central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha Coast now turned into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over West Central and adjoining North-West Bay of Bengal off South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh Coast.

The system likely to concentrate into a Depression in next 24 hrs and trigger rain and thundershowers at most places over Odisha. The weather office warned heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over South Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over North Odisha during next 24 hrs.

Under the impact of the well marked low pressure, gusty surface wind speed from North-easternly direction reaching 45 to 50 kmph with gusting 60 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha Coast.The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in the next 24 hours
