Odisha To Set Up Special Investigating Units To Probe Crime Against Women

Odisha Government today decided to create seven special investigating units to expedite the probe against heinous crimes like rape, dowry death, acid attack and unwanted look against women.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday approved 105 police officers posts for the proposed units, Christened as Investigating Units for Crimes Against Women (IUCAW), the units would not only expedite the investigation but would also supervise the legal process and take advance action to prevent crime against women, collect intelligence report, prevent organised crime and create awareness among the people.

Chief Minister’s office sources here said seven units of the IUCAW would be set up in seven police districts for the purpose.

The Units would be opened in- Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Mayurbhanja and Anugul Police districts.

Every unit would have an Additional Police Superintendent, two Deputy Superintendent of Police, four Inspectors, four Assistant Sub Inspectors and four Constables, official sources here said.
