India Creates Record In Marine Product Exports

India’s export of marine products reached an all-time high of 5.5 billion dollar with frozen shrimps accounting for the largest share in the shipments.

The seafood exports recorded a growth of 6.86 per cent in quantity while in value terms, the expansion was 10.69 per cent in rupee and 10.05 per cent in dollar earnings.

An impressive performance was shown in exports of frozen shrimps which increased by 18.60 per cent in volume. In valuations, the shrimps export grew by 16 per cent in rupees and 15.54 per cent in dollars, according to official data released by Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Dried items have shown a positive growth in terms of by 3. 89 per cent quantity and rupee by 1.22 per cent but has shown a decrease in terms of dollars by 1.22 per cent.

However, fish which is the second largest in the marine export has decreased by 8.34 per cent in the unit value realisation. Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA) envisages a growth of 6 billion dollar by years 2015-16 fiscal .
