Killer ITBP Soldier Nabbed In Chandigarh
12 July, Dehradun
Absconding ITBP soldier Chandra Shekhar, who had allegedly shot dead his senior and injured another at LBS academy in Mussoorie on Friday night, has been nabbed in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Police DIG A S Cheema confirmed that Shekhar was nabbed in Chandigarh this morning and was in their custody. He, however, declined to give details saying they were waiting for Uttarakhand police team.
Dehradun SSP Pushpak Jyoti said that a police team has been sent to Chandigarh to bring him here.
The state police and ITBP had been combing the Mussoorie forests and nearby areas while the Himachal Police was also looking for him as he hailed from that state.
The accused, who was allegedly angered after SI Surendra Lal scolded him over chatting on mobile phone and warned of confiscating his mobile, opened fire on Lal. His colleague Akhtar Husain was also injured in the attack and was under treatment in a private hospital.
Soon after the crime, Chandra Shekhar had managed to abscond with the service LMG and around 90 bullets, according to sources.
The sources said that the probe had revealed that Chandra Shekhar had withdrawn a large amount of money from bank on Friday.
According to SP City Ajay Singh, police was investigating the crime from all angles and more light would be thrown on the case after the accused is interrogated here
