PM Modi, Kyrgyz Prez Atambayev Voice Grave Concern Over Rising Trend Of Extremism, Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev held profound exchange of views on strengthening bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, in the Kyrgyzstan capital Bishek.

Voicing grave concern over rising trend of extremism and terrorism worldwide, the two countries signed four agreements including one to boost defence cooperation and hold annual joint military exercises. They also agreed to expeditiously consider signing an agreement on combating international terrorism and other crimes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Bishek last night as part of his eight-day six-nation tour to Central Asia, emphasised the need to combat terrorism and extremism which he described as a threat without borders.

Addressing a joint press meet along with President Almazbek Atambayev after their talks, Modi said, they both sought a peaceful and secure neighbourhood at a time of challenges in the region.

Highlighting the ties spread over centuries, Prime Minister said that it creates a special kind of closeness and goodwill that adds a lot of charm and interest to his present visit. Kyrgystan and India are also united by the bonds of shared democratic values,

Modi said. Talking about the important place of Central Asia in India’s future, he said that we can reinforce each other’s economic progress.

Earlier, Prime Minister gifted hightech medical equipments worth of 260 thousand dollars to the Kyrgyzstan as a part of India’s defence cooperation with the country.

India’s Defense attache in Kyrgyzstan Colonel Ranjan Mallik said that this is a part of India’s support to Kyrgyzstan army to set up their first Hospital at United Nations.

Elaborating his visit to all the five countries in the region, Prime Minister said that India attaches a new level of relationship with Central Asia and Kyrgystan is a key part of that vision.
