Govt To Provide Skill Training To Over 100 Million Youths In Next 5 Yrs

Government has set a target to provide skill development training to 102 million youth in the country over next five years under the National Skill Development Mission.

Replying to listeners’ query in our Public Speak programme on AIR Monday night, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, the NDA government has created many programmes to provide vocational and skill based training to youth.

He said, under the Skill India Campaign to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow, a skill loan initiative will also be started. Mr. Rudy said, Rs 5000 to Rs 1.5 lakh loan will be given to more than 34 lakh youth, who seek to attend skill development programmes.

Rudy added that the Centre will open 40 skill development centers in Bihar to impart skill training to youth in the coming days. On a question about change in ITI syllabus, the Minister admitted that the present syllabus is old and there is a need to make necessary changes in it.

He informed that a skill development programme will also be started for Army personnel and they will be trained in the last year of their service so that they can get better jobs after their retirement. The Minister said government will give some relaxations in the rule for entrepreneurship development.

Participating in the programme, Managing Director of the National Skill Development Corporation, NSDC, Dilip Chenoy said, the NSDC is preparing special programme to provide skill training to visually challenged persons. The special programme will include providing computer training to them.

He said the corporation will also launch a dedicated number through which people will be able to know about the Skill Development Centers in their areas and courses offered by giving missed call.
