23 July, New Delhi

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has attacked Prime Minister over Lalit Modi controversy and Vyapam scam saying Narendra Modi had promised a corruption-free government during election campaign and his words should carry weight.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament today, Gandhi alleged Prime Minister’s credibility is going down and he should clear the air on these issues.

Reiterating Congress stand that it will not allow Parliament to function without resignations, Mr. Gandhi said the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has committed a criminal offence in the Lalit Modi case and action should be taken against her.

He said, in Vyapam scam, 40 people have died but Prime Minister is still maintaining silence. When asked about corruption charges against Congress-ruled states, Gandhi said his party will take action.

BSP today continued to insist on the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, party Chief Mayawati said a discussion should take place in Parliament on these issues only after resignations.

She said BJP leaders have violated law in these matters particularly in Lalit Modi scandal. Ms. Mayawati also attacked Samajwadi Party for supporting Sushma Swaraj on the issue alleging that the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh does not believe in law.

She alleged that the law and order has become a big casualty in Uttar Pradesh ever since SP government came to power
