BJP Slams Owaisi For Linking Yakub’s Deeath Sentence With His Religion

BJP Friday slammed Anjuman Ittehade-e-MusliemeenMP Asaduddin Owaisi for saying that 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast convict Yaqub Memonwas being hanged because he was a Muslim.

”It is highly unfortunate that Owaisi was bringing in religion in a case of conviction for a terror act. We dismiss all links between terror and religion,”Mr Javadekar said addressing a press conference here.

Owaisi had Thursday said in Hyderabad that Memon was given death sentence because he was a Muslim, whereas assassins of Rajiv Gandhi and Beant Singh were not convicted because theywere backed by political parties.

Dismissing Owaisi’s views, avadekar said it was the court not theGovernment that had given out the death sentence to Yakub.

It was after a full legal process that the apex court gave its ruling, he said, addingthat it was not a question of religion but of terrorism.

”The way Owaisi has mixed religion with terrorism is disgusting,” the BJP leader said.
