President Pranab Mukherjee Completes 3 Yrs In Office

President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday completed three years in office, during which he undertook several new initiatives including restoration of heritage properties in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
To mark the completion of three years of his presidency, the President inaugurated a new AYUSH Wellness Clinic and a restored Clock Tower in Schedule B area of the Presidents Estate.
Speaking on the occasion of inauguration of the clinic, the President said in the three years of his Presidency, numerous measures had been taken for the welfare of residents of the Presidents Estate.
Government programmes such as financial inclusion schemes, concept of a smart city and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have been implemented in Rashtrapati Bhavan as soon as the government launched them.
Briefing mediapersons yesterday about the initiatives undertaken during the past one year, Secretary to the President Omita Paul said, ”The third year of President Pranab Mukherjee’s presidency was marked by a consolidation of the achievements so far and an expansion of various initiatives launched in the first two years.”
During the course of the year, the President made 24 visits to different parts of the country. He made six visits to foreign nations–Vietnam, Bhutan, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Belarus, during the year.
The highlight of the year was the visit to India by US President Barack Obama as the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade. During the course of the third year, the President also received President Xi Jinping of China, President Tony Tan Kengyam of Singapore and President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan, among others.
“About 20 lakh people have visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the past three years,” the President’s Secretary said.
According to a booklet, ‘forging ahead with energy’–the third year of Pranab Mukherjee’s presidency, brought out by Rashtrapati Bhavan,- ”during this period, a number of important projects were completed and many new initiatives initiated.
