Maha Govt. To Launch Accident Insurance Scheme For Farmers

With a view to provide more social and economic security to Maharashtra farmers and their families, the state government has decided to launch Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme for 2015-2016.

The scheme will cover victims of accidental death and those who have been left handicapped by an accident.

According to a government circular, farmers in the age group of 10-75 years whose names have been registered on 7/12 land extracts would be able to avail this scheme.

According to Maharashtra government’s projections, the newly announced Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme will be extended to 1.37 crore farmers across the state.

The term of the current scheme ends on November 30. As per the new scheme, each farmer will get an annual insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh and the government will pay a Rs. 27.25 crore premium.

The Government has also clarified that under this new scheme the affected farmer does not have to pay premium to any other insurance company.

The affected farmers will be able to make use of this government scheme despite having another insurance scheme in their name.
