In a sharp rebuttal to those dubbing him anti-national, after his comments over growing intolerance in the country, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan today said he was a proud Indian and had no intentions to leave the country.
”To those who’re calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I’m proud to be Indian, don’t need anyone’s permission for that. India is my country. I love it. I feel fortunate for being born here and this is where I am staying.
”Neither me nor my wife Kiran have any intentions of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would like to do so in the future,”Aamir said in a statement.
The actor said he stood by his comments on rising intolerance in the country and observed that those criticising him were only proving his point. ”I stand by my every word in the interview.
My statements were distorted. To all the people shouting obscenities at me for speaking my heart out, it saddens me to say you are only proving my point,”Aamir said.
His statement drew sharp criticism from several BJP leaders and Union Ministers as well as on the social media with several people describing the actor as anti-national and unpatriotic.
