Obama To Meet Modi In Paris

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet US President Barack Obama in Paris on the sidelines of the Climate Change Conference where heads of states would be pushing for a agreement to address the issue of global warming.

Obama’s meeting with Modi was announced by the White House, reports from Washington said.

Ahead of the Paris meet, the Prime Minister, while addressing the Indian community in Singapore yesterday said India will not create any problem for the world in arriving at a solution to the problem of global warming.

The Prime Minister’s remark comes days after US Secretary of State John Kerry said India could be a ”challenge” at the Paris climate change talks as it ”has been more cautious, a little more restrained in its embrace of this new paradigm.”

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today once again underlined that India wanted a just and equitable outcome of the Paris Conference.

Modi will be reaching Paris on November 29 and participate in the Summit on November 30.

He would also be launching his renewable energy initiative, ‘the Global Solar Alliance’, on the sidelines of the Summit.

This will be Modi’s third interaction with the US President this month, as the two leaders had met at the G20 and ASEAN and East Asia Summit too.

”We have been engaging with India through the year in determining how they can contributeconstructively to a successful outcome in Paris,” Ben Rhodes, US deputy national security adviser, told reporters in Washington.

Besides Modi, President Obama will also be having a bilateral meeting with Chinese PresidentXi Jinping in Paris.

Rhodes said India and China as two major emitters would be key to the success of the climate summit.
