Odisha Assly Speaker Urged To Reconsider Ruling On Showing Of Posters And Banners

02 December, Bhubaneswar

Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati Wednesday urged Speaker Niranjan Pujari to reconsider his Tuesday’s ruling on the showing of posters and banners in the house.

The Speaker had yesterday ruled that the banners and posters displayed by the opposition members inside the Assembly as mark of their protest will not go to the press.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Bahinipati described the Speakers ruling as a murder of democracy and urged him to withdraw it.

Bahinipati said a decision was taken at an all party meeting that the opposition would not show any poster or banner and the Speaker would adjourn the house as soon as the opposition members rushed to the well to lodge their protest.

But the decision no more stands as the Speaker had in the last Assembly session allowed the house to continue its proceedings even after the leader of opposition sat on the floor of the house in protest, he remarked.

His party colleague Nabakishore Das supported him and said the government was violating the rule formulated by it and also urged the Speaker to reconsider his ruling.
