12th South Asian Games: India bag 14 Gold, 5 silver medals on 2nd day

India bagged 14 Gold and 5 Silver medals on Saturday, the second day of the 12th South Asian Games being held in North Eastern cities of Guwahati and Shillong.
Five Gold medals were won in Wrestling, four in Swimming, three in Weightlifting, and two in Cycling.
As expected, India got off to a ballistic start to the 12th South Asian Games today. Indian grapplers dominated all the 5 Wrestling events, with Archana Tomar, Priyanka Singh, Manisha, Ravinder and Rajneesh winning Gold in their respective categories.
The prominent victory was in the Men’s 57 kg category in which Ravinder beat Pakistan’s Mohd Bilal.
In Weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu clinched the Gold in 48 kg category, with Harshdeep Kaur and Guru Raja also claiming the coveted yellow metal in their divisions.
Indian swimmers also made the country proud as they bagged 4 Gold and 3 Silver medals.
Indian women’s team in 4X100 metres Freestyle relay, Sandeep Sejwal in 200 metres breaststroke event, Shivani Kataria in 200 metres freestyle, and Damini Gowda in the 100 metres Butterfly stroke were the Gold medal winners.
Earlier in the day, India had won 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals in Cycling.
Sri Lanka was second in the medals tally with 4 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze.
Pakistan was third with 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in their kitty.
The Afghanistan contingent was flown by India free of cost for the Games.
Head of Communication in South Asian Games’ Organising Committee, DJ Narayan said, this is the first time, in the history of the Games, a team has been flown free of cost.
