Death Toll Rises To 13 After 6.4 Magnitude Quake In Taiwan

In Taiwan,rescuers are searching for more than 100 people still missing after a powerful, shallow 6.4 megnitude earthquake which struck southern Taiwan before dawn Saturday.

The earthquake caused a high-rise residential building to collapse killing at least 13 people and injuring hundreds, according to authorities.

Interior minister Chen Wei-jen said he feared there may be more people in the building than usual as family members would have returned to celebrate the Lunar New Year holidays next week.

Nearly 340 people have been rescued from the rubble in Tainan, the city hit worst by the quake.

The quake was felt in the capital Taipei, 300 km away. There have also been at least five aftershocks.
