Bengal govt to take over sick Dunlop and Jessop: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday announced that her government would table a bill in the state assembly tomorrow to take over- Dunlop India and Jessop & Company, both the industries, owned by Pawan K Ruia Group, which are facing huge financial crisis at present.
Ms Banerjee, the leader of the house, said the decision to take over the two industries was taken in a cabinet decision.A government bill to this effect to be presented before the house tomorrow.She also sought the support of the opposition parties for the bill to be passed.
Both Dunlop India and Jessop & Company, owned by Pawan Kumar Ruia, have been languishing due to huge financial crisis for decades.Leader of the opposition and CPI(M) leader Surya Kanta Mishra criticising the government move said “Mamata Banerjee’s intention of take over the sick industries is confusing when the present government term is going to end soon.”He said, he could not understand if the government was to present a bill or an ordinance regarding the industries take on the last day of the house.
Criticising the government’s move, Mishra said the workers of the two industries have been denied salaries and other payments for months and instead of mitigating the real problem for them, the government is further confusing the people.
Mishra accused the chief minister of falsifying on many issues and claimed that government data of achievements does not match with the reality.Congress leaders Mohammad Sohrab and Manas Bhunia also criticised the government saying the chief minister was trying to hoodwink the people with achievement data.
“Mamata Banerjee becomes the chief minister by default with the support of 65 Congress MLAs in 2011. She has no constitutional etiquette or legacy and utter things which are not to be said by her status,” Bhunia said.
He said, this after Ms Banerjee criticised the move of the Congress and CPI(M) for fostering an alliance before the elections.Earlier in the house, state finance minister Amit Mitra presented the 2016-17 Vote-on-Account statement. This would be the last budget presentation during the first term of the Trinamool Congress government.
