Odisha to constitute Law Commission to bring reforms in Law

The Odisha cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday decided to constitute a law commission in the state.

Briefing newsmen after the cabinet meeting, state chief secretary A P Padhi said the government felt that it was necessary to improve and revise the existing law and enact new law in consonance with the present scenario.

Padhi said the complexed job of advising the state government to amend the existing law repeal obsolete law and consolidate, modify and bring new reforms could be undertaken by persons having experience and expertise in various branches of the law and administration of law justice.

Hence, the chief secretary said the cabinet considered it necessary to constitute law commission in the state.

In another decision, the cabinet changed the name of the agriculture department to department of agriculture and farmers. Empowerment to sharpen the focus on the empowerment of the farmers for their over all development through various activities.

Similarly, in a bid to give more importance and focus on convergence of plan programmes and utilise resources from different resources in a more systematic and planned manner, the cabinet decided to rename the planning and coordination department as planning and convergence department.
