Rahul Gandhi visits flyover collapse site

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi Saturday visited the Girish Park area in north Kolkata where an under-construction flyover collapsed on Thursday last, killing 24 people.

Accompanied by senior state Congress leaders, Gandhi interacted with rescue workers at the accident site.

He also visited the hospitals where the injured people are undergoing treatment. More than 100 people were injured in the disaster and 70 of them were still in hospitals.

Gandhi reached the city this morning.

Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, police and Fire Brigade wereengaged in the massive rescue operation. They worked round-the-clock till yesterday afternoon using heavy earth movers and gas cutting machines to reach out to the people trapped inside the huge mounds of debris.
