ICC World CUP : Sri Lanka’s Second Consecutive Win , Beats Bangladesh by 92 Runs

Riding on centuries by Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumara Sangakkara , Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 92 runs in a Pool-A match of ICC World Cup at Melbourne Thursday .

This was Sri Lanka’s second consecutive win after they suffered a 98-run loss to New Zealand in the opener.

Opting to bat, Sri Lanka posted 332 for 1 courtesy Dilshan’s unbeaten 161 and Sangakkara’s 105 not out. Opener Lahiru Thirimanne had also scored a half-century.

They later, bowled out Bangladesh for 240 in 47 overs. Pacer Lasith Malinga bagged three wickets, with Suranga Lakmal and Dilshan taking two each, and skipper Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera claiming one apiece. Dilshan was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier, in the other Pool-A fixture of the day, Afghanistan recorded their first ever World Cup victory, as they got the better of Scotland by one wicket in a nail-biting finish at Dunedin.

It was Samiullah Shenwari’s resistance amidst the fall of Afghan wickets that helped the debutants go above sixth-placed England in Group-A.

Tomorrow, South Africa will clash with the West Indies in Group-B at Sydney. The match will begin at 9 AM Indian Time.
