Research should be as per the needs of people: Harsvardhan

Union Minister for Information and Technology Harshvardhan Monday urged the scientist community to do research in the areas related to the requirements of the people.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said the scientists should select such topics in research which cater to people’s needs.
He said, ”After Dr C V Raman no one from the country has managed to get the noble prize therefore it is necessary that our subject of research should be such that it gets national and international recognition.”
The Minister also asked the scientists to maintain coordination among themselves so they do not end up spending their time on a common subject.
He asked the scientists to share with the other scientists working in separate research labs of the state about their works as this would help to save time and energy.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is working to encourage scientific thoughts,’ he said adding that programmes like ‘Make in India’ and ‘start up India’ were all aimed at encouraging scientific though process.
The union minister further said coal was not just for carrying scams but also a tool to increase the GDP of the country.
Mr Harsvardhan said, UPA government did coal scam worth Rs 1.86 lakh crore, while on the other hand just auctioning 30 to 40 coal blocks the BJP led NDA government has garnered 3.25 lakh crore, which would be used for the development of the country.
He said, technology has so much advanced that all problems of the people can be solved with the help of science.
Earlier, the Union minister was accorded a warm welcome during his visit to Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research(CIMFR) here.
He also inaugurated the newly built Bhagwant Singh advance mining research center at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research(CSIR) campus.
Later, a delegation of the IMA also met the Union minister and urged him to ensure that the medical protection act is implemented in the state.
