Rio Olympics :Dattu Bhokanal enters quarter finals in single sculls; US picks first gold medal

In Rio Olympics, first round Hockey match between India and Ireland is in progress.

Olympics’ first Gold Medal goes to America. In women’s 10 metre Air Rifle event, Verginia Fresher won the Gold with 208 points. In this event, China won both the Silver and the Bronze.

Indian rower Dattu Baban Bhokanal entered the quarterfinals of the Men’s Single Sculls in his qualifying round .

In the first heat of the day, Armyman Bhokanal who is India’s sole competitor finished third in the 2000 metre race with a timing of 7 minutes and 21.67 seconds.

Indian shooters Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul bowed out of the 10 metre Women’s Air Rifle competition.

403.China’s Li Du topped the qualification with 420.7, setting up an Olympic record in the process. Seven more shooters qualified for the final. In men’s qualification round, India’s Jitu Rai and Gurpeet Singh will be seen in action later.

Achantha Sharath Kamal and Soumyajit Ghosh will play men’s singles matches in Table Tennis today. In women’s singles matches, Manika Batra and Mouma Das will be in action.

In Tennis, the duo of Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna will take on the pair of Matkovaski and Kubot in the first round of men’s doubles at 11 p.m.IST. In women’s doubles, the pair of Sania Mirza nd Prarthana Thombare will take on Chinese pair of S.Zhang and S. Peng.
