Pro-Kannada organisations call for ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on Sep 9

Pro-Karnataka organisations have given acall for a ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on September 9 to protest against theSupreme Court direction to release 10 tmc ft of water to Tamil Naduwhen the reservoirs in the river basin was witnessing low levels dueto failed monsoon.

Speaking on behalf of the organisations, former MLA Vatal Nagarajclaimed that more than 900 organisations have extended their supportfor the September 9 bandh and ‘it will be total’ in the State.

He said that besides the Cauvery issue, the bandh call was alsofor fulfillment of other vexed issues including delayed KalasaBanduri Nala diverting project under Mahadayi river water disputebetween Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Mr Nagaraj claimed that except for emergency services likeHospitals, Medical Stores and Milk supplies and other essentialservices, all other services including business establishments,Banks, government offices, hotels and others will remain closed.Bus services, autorickshaws taxis and all other public transportwill also be off the roads on that day, he further claimed.

He expressed disappointment over Supreme Court verdict on releaseof Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu when the levels in the reservoirswere very low in the State.

”This order means that water for Tamil Nadu and tears for thepeople of Karnataka. Where was the question of live and let live,”he asked.
