SC throws out PIL to restrain govt from using cross-LoC surgical strikes for political gains

The Supreme Court Friday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation, filed by a Delhi-based lawyer, seeking to restrain the government from using the issue of cross-LoC surgical strikes and other actions of armed forces for political gains.

Petitioner Manohar Lal Sharma had sought the Apex Court’s direction in this regard to the Union government.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and L Nageshwar Rao, ruled that the petition was baseless.

On the intervening night of September 28-29, the Indian Army had conducted surgical strikes along the Line of Control (LoC) on seven terrorist launching pads.
