President welcomes govt’s decision to scrap Rs 500 & Rs 1000 currency notes

President Pranab Mukherjee has welcomed the Government’s decision to scrap 500 and 1000 rupees currency notes and said in a series of tweets that the bold step of the Government will help unearth unaccounted money and counterfeit currency.

The President called upon people not to panic and follow Government guidelines for exchange of the 1000 and 500 rupee notes.

He also reminded people that all currency notes below 500 rupees will continue as legal tender.

Mukherjee also called upon all to avail of opportunity provided by Government to exchange currency notes of 500 and 1000 for new legal tender.
