TNCC President Urges PM Modi TO Cancel Sri Lanka Visit

Strongly condemning the statement made by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe threatening to shoot Indian fishermen crossing the IMBL, TNCC president E V K S Elangovan Tuesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give up his plan to visit Lanka as it may not prove fruitful.

In a statement here, Elangovan said it was shocking and sad to note Wickramasinghe’s statement which seemed like trampling under the feet the 1987 agreement between India and Sri Lanka which said no fishermen crossing the maritime boundary would be shot at.

While Colombo delayed devolution of powers to Tamil provinces under the 13th Amendment to the Constitution citing terrorism as the reason even after the 2009 civil war ended and a Chief Minister was elected for the northern province, Eelam Tamils were yet to enjoy equal rights or opportunity, Elangovan claimed.
