Bombay HC Dismisses Rahul Gandhi’s Petition For Quashing Defamation Case In Remarks Against RSS

The Bombay High Court Tuesday dismissed a writ petition filed by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi seeking quashing of a case filed against him over his alleged remarks accusing RSS of assassinating Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Justice M L Tahiliani did not grant interim reliefto Mr Gandhi in the case and directed him to appear in the Bhiwandi court for the hearing.

Addressing a public rally at Sonale in Bhiwandi on March6, 2014, Gandhi had alleged it was ‘RSS people’ who had killed Mahatma Gandhi. ”RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talkof him… They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji,” he had said.

RSS had later filed a complaint against Gandhi in Bhiwandicourt over the remarks. In the complaint, RSS contested that the remarks weredefamatory and sought action against the Congress leader
