Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Wins Trust Vote Amid BJP Boycott

Nitish Kumar Government in Bihar Wednesday won the trust vote on the floor of the State Assembly, amid a boycott by BJP, the main opposition party.

The party won 140 votes, 23 more than the required support of 117 legislators in the 243 member House, which has an effective strength of 233, as ten seats are vacant.

After the trust vote, Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary gave recognition to Nitish Kumar as the Leader of the house.

Former chief Minister Jitin Ram Manjhi was conspicuous by his absence during the trust vote, although 12 legislators of Manjhi camp voted in favour of the trust vote to avoid disqualification. The JD (U) had issued a Whip to all the 110 legislators to vote in favour of the Nitish government.

RJD, Congress, CPI also voted in favour of the trust vote. Manjhi, in a letter to the Speaker sought to know the status of the membership after he was declared an unattached member.
