Congress Demands Explanation From PM , HM Over Snooping On Rahul Gandhi

The Congress Saturday demanded an explanation from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister over snooping on party Vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that India is a democracy not a police state.

Singhvi said that an Assistant Sub-inspector of Delhi Police last week visited the office of Rahul Gandhi and was trying to gather information about him. The party will raise this issue in Parliament, said Singhvi.

Speaking to reporters, BJP spokesman Sambit Patra said the Congress is trying to politicise the issue.

The Delhi police Saturday denied snooping charges and said that there is no mala-fide intention on the security audit of Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to reporters, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said security audit has been done recently at the residences of other Parliament members namely, Kishan Pal Gujjar, Naresh Agrawal, M Veerappa Moily and Telengana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Defending the action of Delhi Police, Bassi said what was done was basic policing work. He said Delhi Police is under no political pressure.
