Union Govt. Sanction Rs.480 Cr, Under Central Road Funds To J&K

Reassuring full support to the Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP-led Central Government has agreed to enhance the sanctioned allocations under Central Roads Fund to a total of 480 Crores rupees for current fiscal.

The assurance was given by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Roads and Buildings, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari in New Delhi Monday.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government for a Detailed Project Reports of the projects other than the already submitted 13 projects,
including up-gradation of old Airport road in Srinagar.

During his meeting with Nitin Gadkari ,the J&K Minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, while emphasizing the need for early completion of 4-lane National Highway Project, also laid stress on up-gradation and improvement of existing Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Bukhari raised the issue of declaration of Mughal Road and other major roads of the state as National Highways. He also raised the issue of construction of tunnels on various routes including a tunnel at Peer
Ki Gali on Mughal Road, Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel, Lolab-Bandipora tunnel and the Sudh-Mahadev tunnel.

The proposals for the construction of these tunnels have already been submitted to the Union Government. Mr Gadkari assured the J&K Minister that the union ministry for Road Transport and Highways will favourably consider these proposals.
