Lok Sabha Passes Bill Seeking Repeal Of Obsolate Laws

The Lok Sabha Wednesday passed a Bill seeking to repeal the enactments which have become obsolete.

The Repealing and Amendment Bill, 2014 intends to repeal 35 laws and pass amendments to two laws.These include, Indian Fisheries Act, 1897, Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1947 and Sugar Undertakings (Taking Over of Management) Act, 1978.

Replying to a debate on the Bill, Law Minister Sadanada Gowda said that government is working on repealing all those laws which are of no relevance at present.

Responding to the concerns of members about delay in disposal of cases, Mr Gowda said that government will bring a bill in next session of Parliament to set up commercial benches in High Courts.
