Chhattisgarh Govt. Incurs Rs.178 Cr. Revcenue Loss Due To Lack Of Excise Policy :CAG

The Comptroller and Auditor General has said that the Chhattisgarh Government lost 178 crore rupees as it is not having any policy to recover licence fees for liquor sold in excess of the minimum guarantee quota.

The CAG report on the revenue sector for year ended March 31, 2014, was tabled by Chief Minister Raman Singh in the Assembly Thursday .

The Excise Department had not framed any rules to recover the licence fee of 178.41 crore from the licensees, which was collected by them from the consumers during sale of liquor in excess of Minimum Guarantee Quota (MGQ), the report said.

Undue benefit was given to retailers by not recovering license fee collected from consumers where sale is in excess of the MGQ, it said. However, the CAG also recommended that the State Government could introduce requisite provisions to collect the license fee from licensees where sales were in excess of MGQ.
