The Jammu and Kashmir Police Friday arrested Separatist leader Masarat Alam from his house in Srinagar.
Hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and separatist leader Masarat Alam were put under house arrest Thursday a day ahead of their rally in Tral town of Pulwama district.
Policemen were also deployed outside the house of the two Hurriyat leaders as a preventive measure to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, State government has denied permission for today’s proposed congregation.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed directed the police to refuse permission for the rally which was scheduled to be taken from Srinagar to Tral where a youth was killed allegedly by army while in their custody.
Sayeed also said that waving of Pakistani flags and raising pro-Pak slogans are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
