CWG 2022: India assured of first ever medal in lawn bowls event as women’s team enters final

In the Commonwealth Games, Indian women assured at least two silver medals for India today. In lawn bowls, the women’s team scripted history by entering the final of the fours event for the first time ever confirming at least a silver medal for the country. The team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani defeated New Zealand by a margin of 16-13 in the semi-final today.

In women’s Judo, Sushila Devi Likmabam entered the final in the 48 kg category. She defeated Malawi’s Harriet Bonface 10-0. She is now assured of at least a silver medal.

In men’s Judo, Vijay Singh Yadav and Jasleen singh will play for the bronze medal today in their respective categories. They both lost their semi-final matches today.

In men’s Boxing, Amit Panghal stormed into the quarter-final of the 51 kg category. He defeated Namry Berri of Vanuatu by a 5-0 unanimous decision. Hussam Uddin Mohammed entered the quarterfinal in the 57 kg category. He defeated Mohammad Salim Hussain of Bangladesh 5-0. Later, Ashish Kumar will appear in the round of 16 in the 75-80 kg category.

However, there was some disappointment for India in weightlifting today as Ajay Singh finished fourth after missing his final clean and jerk lift in the men’s 81 kg category. Later, Harjinder Singh will compete in the women’s 71 kg category tonight.

In Table Tennis, Men’s team will play the semi-final match with Nigeria tonight.

India has so far won six medals, three gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
