Arun Jaitley rejects Obama’s remark on religious intolerance

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Friday rejected US President Barack Obama’s remarks that the acts of intolerance experienced by religious faiths of all types in India in the past few years would have shocked Mahatma Gandhi.
Replying to a media query in New Delhi, Jaitley said the country has a history of religious tolerance and any aberration can not alter it.
He said the best example of India’s tolerance is Tibetan Guru Dalai Lama sitting at a table near Obama in the recent event of an annual prayer breakfast in Washington.
The US president had made the remarks during the prayer breakfast event.
Earlier in his visit to India last month, Obama had also said that India will succeed so long as it is not splintered along the lines of religious faith.
