Embarrassment For Kejriwal : SC Stays Delhi Govt’s Circular On Defamatory News

Supreme Court Thursday stayed Delhi government’s circular on instituting defamatory cases against media.
A bench of the apex court headed by Justice Dipak Misra stayed the circular issued on May 6 allowing the government to proceed against media publishing defamatory imputation against Delhi Chief Minister, ministers, or any public servant.

According to the circular issued by Directorate of Information and Publicity Department, if any officer associated with the Delhi government feels that the published or aired news item damages his or the government’s reputation, he should file a complaint with the Principal Secretary (Home).
