Adnan Sami Becomes Indian ‘Officially’, Rijuju Presents Naturalisation Certificate

Acclaimed Pakistani singer Adnan Sami has become a denizen of India ‘officially’ Friday.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju presented the Certificate of Naturalisation to the noted singer and musician here.

His request for citizenship was approved by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday.

B K Prasad, Additional Secretary (Foreigners), MHA and Adnan Samis wife Roya Faryabi, were also present on the occasion.

”Teri oonchi shaan hai Maula, Meri arzi maan le Maula, Tu hai sab kuch jaan le Maula, Main hoon teramaan le Maula,” the melodious lyrics of popular chartbuster of ‘Kabhi to Nazar Milao’ album resonated in the mind of Sami, who was ‘elated’ on getting Indian citizenship at the Home Ministry.

“I am eternally grateful to the Indian government and people of India, who have given me so much love and affection,” Sami told mediapersons here.The 42-year-old had made a representation to the Home ministry on May 26 this year, requesting his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.

The Lahore-born singer had made India his second home after he shifted base to Mumbai over the past decade. With songs like ‘Kabhi To Nazar Milao’ and ‘Lift Karaa De’, he had made a niche for himself in Bollywood. His ‘Bhar Do Jholi Meri’ in Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan last year, gave his career a much-needed phillip.

The 42-year-old had recently renounced his Pakistani citizenship.
