AFSPA Controversy : J&K Chief Minister Mufti M Sayeed Meets PM Modi And Rajnath

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi Tuesday.

Mufti also had a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The meeting took place a day after the state government said it would work towards a phased withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA from areas that are free from militancy for some time.

BJP legislators have voiced their opposition to revocation of AFSPA in the wake of increasing attack from Pak based terror groups. Kashmir valley yesterday witnessed three terror attacks.

Talking to media after the meeting, Mufti said, he discussed present political situation in the state with both the leaders. He said, rehabilitation of the people affected by the recent floods was also discussed.

The Chief Minister said, good governance, development work and peace efforts also figured during the meeting.

Reacting to the meeting, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a tweet that Syed has rushed to Delhi to explain to the Prime Minister and Home Minister that he didn’t mean it when he said he would take the decision to revoke AFSPA.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had last month said that this was not the right time for the withdrawal of AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir.
