Airbus Evinces Interest to manufacture In India

Make in India initiative of the government received a major boost on Saturday when aircraft manufacturer Airbus disclosed plans to increase outsourcing of work to 2 billion dollar in next five years and its keenness to manufacture in India.

This is five times of the present value. This was disclosed by the spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the high-tech manufacturing facility of the company at Toulouse in southern France on Saturday afternoon.

Modi inspected the assembly process of the Airbus A 380, one of the large commercial aircrafts.

The visit of the Prime Minister to the aviation major, Airbus is being seen as big boost for the Make in India campaign.

Some of the present Indian vendors including Wipro, Mahindra, L&T and Infosys also briefed the Prime Minister about their inputs.

The executive vice president of Airbus, Charles Champion said that at present, 35 Indian companies are on the supplier list and gave details of enhancing outsourcing from India. The Prime Minister also visited CNES headquarters, the space agency of France as the two countries are celebrating fifty years of Space co-operation.

Later he also paid homage to thousands of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives at Neuve-Chappelle during the First World War.
