AP Govt acquires land for Polavaram project

Andhra Pradesh government in the House today informed that an extent of 45,743 acres has been acquired for Polavaram Irrigation Project.

After bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, 297 habitations are transferred from Khammam district of Telangana and merged into Andhra Pradesh.

As per socio Economic Survery, 38,985 families are found as project affected in Polavaram submergence, Minister for Water resources, said Devinent Uma Maheswara Rao in the House, while responding to a question raised by members.

The Joint Collectors/project administrators of East Godavari district and West Godavari district are initiating necessary steps for identification of land for all R and R Centres, land-to-land and other infrastructure facilities for speedy completion of Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R and R) of the project displaced families, the Minister said. The government has implemented loan waiver at the affected villages and it has been extended to 9,400 persons by sanctioning an amount of Rs 34.72 crore, Mr Devinent informed.

The government was also impelmenting welfare schemes in the villages, he added.
