Arunachal Governor asks newly reinstated CM Nabam Tuki to prove majority by Saturday

In Arunachal Pradesh Governor Tathagata Roy has informed Nabam Tuki that he stands reinstated as the Chief Minister of the State.

The Governor has also asked the Chief Minister to call the State Legislative Assembly session immediately and to prove his majority in the house no later than July 16 next.

“Chief Minister Nabam Tuki arrived at Naharlagun Helipad Thursday afternoon. He resumed his duty at Arunachal Bhavan in New Delhi yesterday evening, just after Supreme Court ordered to reinstate Congress government in the State.

Tuki said what happened was unfortunate. On being asked about the floor test he said the Congress has the needed majority.

He also said that Governor JP Rajkhowa instead of protecting the Constitution has misused his constitutional power. At the time of writing this report Tuki was holding a meeting with his MLAs and Congress leaders in Itanagar to chalk out the future action.

Meanwhile, dismissed Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has claimed to have support of 43 MLAs in the 60 member assembly. He said Nabam Tuki, who was reinstated as the state Chief Minister by a Supreme Court verdict yesterday, would not be able to prove majority in assembly.

Talking to newspersons in Guwahati today, Pul said that the Supreme Court verdict has not directed that the party composition as on December 15 last shall be resorted.

He said that the possibility of the Congress trying to engage in horse trading cannot be ruled out. Parading 36 MLAs in front of the media, Pul asserted he has the support of 43 members of the Arunachal Legislative Assembly, which has a total strength of 60.
