Bangladesh Court Sentences ULFA Leader Ranjan , Pradi To Life Imprisonment

A Bangladesh court has sentenced Indian separatist outfit ULFA leader Ranjan Choudhury and his associate Pradi Marak to life imprisonment.

A Kishoreganj court gave the verdict in two cases filed against them Wednesday .

The duo were arrested in July 2012 with a number of weapons and ammunition in their possession in Lakshmipur area of Kishoreganj, and 2 cases under the Arms & Explosive Substances Act and Anti Terrorism Act were filed against them.

While Ranjan Choudhury was found guilty on both counts, Pradi Marak was acquitted in the case under the Arms Act.

Ranjan Choudhury escaped to Bangladesh in 1995 after serving a year in prison in India. Police say he was in constant touch with ULFA leaders in Nepal and Bhutan, including its military wing chief Paresh Barua, who has been sentenced to death in Bangladesh in 2014 in an arms smuggling case.
