Banks file contempt of court against Mallya

The SBI-led consortium of banks today filed a contempt of court petition against liquor baron Vijaya Mallya for defying the court’s directives in the case related to recovery of loans totaling to more than Rs 9,000 crore.

Endorsing the move from the banks, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi submitted before Chief Justice T S Thakur that Mallya did not comply with the court’s directives about disclosing the assets owned by him and his family, as he did not make proper disclosure.
His disclosure was untrue, Rohatgi said.

After hearing the Attorney General, the court has posted the petition for hearing on July 18.
