Banks May Be Hit As AIBEA Strike Tomorrow

Banking services are likely to be hit as All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) of which State Sector Banks Employees Association (SSBEA) is an affiliate has given a call for strike on January 8 in Associate Banks (ABs) of State Bank of India.Main contention for the strike is SSBEA does not want the CareerProgression Scheme for Clerical Staff and that the service conditions of SBI not be imposed on them..

Despite several rounds of bilateral discussions, SSBEA has been vehemently opposingCareer Progression Scheme (CPS) which would not only empower theemployees but is also aimed at improving customer service, State Bank of Hyderabad said in arelease here Wednesday..

Career Progression Scheme which is purely optional in the hands of employees has been successfully introduced in SBI in 2009 has been well received by one and all and is also accompanied by substantial monetary benefits to the employees.

While SSBEA of Associate Banks desired that all benefits which are made available to SBI employee be made available to them, they are not willing to accept similar service conditions despite huge benefits to customers and employees, the association pointed out., the release said.

The strike of the employees of Associate Banks is not justified and weregret for the inconvenience that may be caused to our valued customers and thestake holders if it does materialise.

The SBH appealed to employees of Associate Banks not to participate in the proposed strike in their own interest, in the interest of the customers and the banks, the release added.
