BJD announces four names for Rajya Sabha elections from Odisha

Putting an end to the speculations,the ruling Biju Janata Dal on Satruday declared four candidates for biennial election to Rajya Sabha from Odisha. They are Sujeet Kumar, Subash Singh, Muna Khan and Mamata Mahanta.
The elections are scheduled to be held on March 26.
The names of the four candidates were declared by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik.
While one Rajya Sabha seat has been fallen vacant following Anubhav Mohanty got elected to Lok Sabha in the 2019 general election from Kendrapada., the tenure of BJD’sNarendra Swain and Sarojini Hembram and Ranjib Biswal of Congress will end on April 2 next..
Going by its membership strength in the State Assembly, the BJD is set to win in all the four seats. The fourth seat will be crucial as both the BJD and the BJP will require the support of six more MLAs..
As per the notification, the nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or by any of his/her proposers to Odisha Assembly Secretary Dasharathi Satapathy or to Odisha Assembly Deputy Secretary Shishir Kanta Swain, the Assistant Returning Officer, at the Conference Hall of Assembly between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm on any day by March 13, 2020.
