Both Houses Of Parliament Adjourned Sine Die, Naidu Calls Session ‘most productive’

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned sine die. The second part of Budget session began on 20th of last month while 235th session of Rajya Sabha on 23rd.

Briefing reporters at the close of the session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu described it as the most productive session during the last decade.

Both the Houses passed 24 bills during the session the best in the last five years. The bills which were passed included 100th Constitution Amendment Bill to implement Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh, Black Money, Coal Mines and Mines and Minerals Bill. Beside, the Lok Sabha passed Constitution Amendment Bill on Goods and Services Tax which was referred to the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha on opposition’s demand.
The Land Acquisition bill was referred to the Joint Committee of Parliament after a detailed discussion. The Lok Sabha held 35 sittings which is highest in the last five years while the Rajya Sabha held 32.

Naidu expressed unhappiness over the disruption of proceedings in Parliament saying the opposition gave 29 notices of suspension of business in the Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, they demanded adjournment of business on 15 of the 32 working days which indicates lack of seriousness on their part.

The Minister said the government is committed to push the development agenda for the betterment of the poor people. Taking on the Congress for their opposition to the Land Acquisition Bill , Naidu said the opposition has no moral right to criticise the NDA on the bill.
