Bumper mango production expected this season in UP

After last year’s damage to the crops due to unseasonal rains on Uttar Pradesh, the state is expected to witness bumper Mango production this season giving speculation to fall in the prices of the king of fruits.However, agriculturalists are keeping their fingers crossed till the crop is out in the market.

The condition of the crop in UP is good this year with 95 per cent of plants having flowered. State horticulture department today said after several years, the state is expecting a bumper mango production if everything remains normal.

They said, this year mango prices may fall due to huge production which will enable the poors to enjoy the fruit at cheaper rates. “Mango production in UP will be very good this year,” said Insram Ali, president of the Mango Growers Association of India.

He claimed that such good flower of mango crop had been seen after a gap of 10 years and if the weather is good for the next 15 days then we can expect good production.

Ali said this year UP can expect a production of around 50 lakh metric tonne of mangos, which would be a record of sorts. Last year the production was 44 lakh tonnes.
