Captain Amarinder Singh quits as Punjab CM; accuses Congress Party of humiliating him continuously

Chandigarh, September 18

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has tendered his resignation letter to the Governor of Punjab Banwari Lal Purohit, this afternoon. Punjab Governor has conveyed his acceptance of the resignation of the Chief Minister.

After quitting the post, Captain Amarinder Singh met the media and informed that he and his council of ministers have resigned. He said, since that he has resigned, the Congress Party can choose a new Chief Minister, whoever they want.

Mr. Singh said, he had been in Congress Party for the past 52 years and served as the Chief Minister of Punjab for nine and half years. He said, he is still in Congress.

About the future course of action, he said, he will decide after discussing with his supporters who were with him during thick and thin.
He said that he had been continuously humiliated by the Congress party and it was third time Punjab Legislature meeting was called without his knowledge.

Captain Amarinder said, he had also called Congress President Sonia Gandhi over phone and informed her about his resolve to resign.

Earlier in the day,  Amarinder Singh had said if he was asked to resign, he would leave the Congress party.

Meanwhile the Punjab Congress Legislature party has passed a resolution giving powers to the Congress national president Sonia Gandhi to decide the new Chief Minister for the state.

The resolution was moved in a meeting held at Chandigarh by Brahm Mohindra, Senior Cabinet Minister in the Captain Amarinder Singh’s cabinet. After passing, the resolution has  been sent to Mrs Sonia Gandhi.

Captain Amarinder did not attend the CLP meeting.
